Before she was able to write or read, she had already composed her own songs. At the age of eight, she bought her first electric guitar and began to sing at an Knoxville Tenn Radio Station. Her first album was recorded during the same year on Gold Band Records, a small independent label. Even though she became a local star while in High School, she knew her goals were bigger. When she was graduating in 1964, she moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde was her first record to chart at the top of Monument Records. Porter Wagoner's syndicated TV show required the services of a new singer by the time. Parton became a member of Grand Ole Opry 1969 after contracting in 1969 with RCA Records. However she left Wagoner's show in 1974 as her solo songs like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene were charting collaborations with them. Parton's song, I Will Never Have Love for You (for Wagoner), was able to reach the top of the. 1 spot after they separated. 1. for the first time in 1974.
